Inc Presents SEI's Introduction to the CMMI v1.2
June 9-12, 2008 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
The SEI’s Software CMM (SW-CMM®) and CMMI® have
been the most successful models for process improvement in the
software and systems industries. They have been used by a wide
variety of organizations to realize significant improvements in
predictability, speed-to-market, cost reduction and product
quality. Come learn about the CMMI and how to use it.
Course Overview
This three-and-a-half day course introduces the fundamental
concepts of the Capability Maturity Model® Integration
(CMMI®) and how to introduce it into an organization. CMMI
models are tools that help organizations improve their ability to
develop and maintain quality products and services. CMMI models are
an integration of best practices from proven discipline-specific
process improvement models, including the CMM® for Software,
EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Development CMM.
The course provides an overview of all the process areas in the
CMMI. It will cover all 5 maturity levels of the model, with the
depth of each level tailored to the needs of the class. Completion
of this course is required to be part of a SCAMPI appraisal team,
and for those who wish to go on to become authorized CMMI
Instructors or SCAMPI appraisal/team leaders. The course is also
useful for those who are interested in the quantitative processes
so important at the higher maturity levels.
The course style is composed of lectures, class exercises and
after-class readings, with ample opportunity for participant
questions and discussions. After attending the course, participants
will be able to describe the components of CMMI models and their
relationships, discuss the process areas in CMMI models, and be
able to start planning how to use the models in their
organization.
Course topics include:
- Process Improvement Concepts
- Overview of CMMI, Model Components
- Maturity Levels 2, 3, 4 & 5,
- Institutionalization, and Representations
- Quantitative Management,
- Supporting Complex Environments
- Next Steps.
Learning Objectives - At the end of the course, students should be
able to:
- Navigate the CMMI document to find relevant information
- Understand components of CMMI models and their
relationships
- Understand the process areas.
Process Inc's Introduction to the CMMI
Process Inc also offers the Process Inc Introduction to the CMMI
several times a year. That course provides an overview of the CMMI
and then focuses on understanding how the CMMI and
particularly Maturity Levels 2 and 3 can be used to solve problems
in organizations. Please call about having this course offered
in-house, or add your name to our course announcement
list.
Who Should Attend
- Systems and software engineering managers and
practitioners,
- QA team members, and
- Process group (e.g. SEPG, EPG) members.
